Bombarded by Poisons

I was once a pest control business owner/operator. We were taught that chemical toxicity was measured by a measure called 'LD' or lethal dose, and that there are five routes into the body for poisoning to occur - hair, eyes, nose, mouth and the largest body organ of all - skin. An 'LD' can happen all at once, or build up a little bit at a time over time. The end result is that it makes you sick and can kill you. If you are being poisoned, you may need to cut the exposure, take an antidote and detoxify. What is true of the physical is often true of the spiritual. Sin has an 'LD' as well.

In the last 24 hours we -

• probably cleaned our teeth. That meant we willingly ingested - Sodium monofluorophosphate, or some form of fluoride substance. In little amounts it's claimed that it is not carcinogenic. In large amounts it is.
• most likely had washed our dishes before we ate off them today. That means we ingested small amounts of poisons we had coated our plates, knives and forks with, when we last washed our dishes.
• may have used hairspray. Contains harmful chemicals
• may have used perfume, or deodorant. Ditto
• hopefully used the bathroom. It is one of the most toxic rooms in the house for most Aussie families. People use deodorants containing aluminum (Alzheimer's disease), shampoos and soaps containing harsh solvents (liver toxicity), toothpaste containing non-organic fluoride (osteoporosis), mouthwash with aspartame (brain tumors) or saccharin (various cancers), and to top it off, most people slap on a dab of perfume or cologne containing highly toxic cancer-causing chemicals.
• probably sat in a car and breathed the fumes that keep coming out of the plastics, upholstery and glues used on the inside trimmings. (Worse when its hot)
• may have travelled behind a car pumping out smelly and poisonous exhaust fumes.

It's a wonder we are still alive!

What has been our exposure to spiritual contaminates in the last day, week or longer? They gain access to our brains via the senses. Particularly the eyes and ears. And then there is the added affects of the physical toxins we take in on our ability to think clearly. Living healthfully is not primarily about living longer. It's about having a brain that is disposed to understanding what God is telling us as we relate to Him.

What can we do about all this physical and spiritual environmental poisoning going on around us? The impacts can be in miniscule increments that add up to more significant, even lethal, doses. When do the small exposures accumulate to become a lethal dose?

In the physical realm it's when the illness caused becomes life threatening and irreversible. In the physical realm, where possible, we should reduce our exposure and strengthen our immune systems to help us not be overcome.

In the spiritual realm, poisoning can be happening to us and we are often unaware it is happening. When do the little exposures become a lethal dose? Fortunately we have the Great Physician who, if we let Him, can reverse even the greatest accumulated overdoses of sin.

There are two routes into our minds. To avoid accumulating spiritual toxicity, we need to

• block our exposure to the things that contaminate our minds. We can't stop the birds flying overhead but we can stop them roosting in our hair (Paul White, Jungle Doctor)
• strengthen our spiritual immune systems (prayer and Bible study).
• detoxify spiritually. Whatever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy, think on these things. (Phil 4: 8)

Ellen White wrote in The Great Controversy, (587.1) We may disguise poison by mingling it with wholesome food, but we do not change its nature. On the contrary, it is rendered more dangerous, as it is more likely to be taken unawares. It is one of Satan's devices to combine with falsehood just enough truth to give it plausibility. Eugene Prewitt will be exploring this theme in our next seminar series - 1844 and Being Honest About Our Doctrines.> - when he looks at a range of theological contaminants poisoning the Angels' messages of Revelation.

The apostle Paul's advice is - Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. (1 Cor 5: 6, 7)

Spiritually, an 'LD' can happen all at once, or build up a little bit at a time. The end result is the same - that it kills you spiritually - all at once or over time. If we are being spiritually poisoned we may need to cut the exposure or to take a spiritual antidote and detoxify.

Jesus says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matt 11: 28). He promises to reverse our 'lethal dose' of sin.

On this DVD Rose and Leo Hamulczyk share their remarkable and inspirational story of how God has led in their lives. Their response has been to venture out in mission for Him, reaching thousands in various locations in the Philippines and through parts of South East Asia.
