Hayley Reports Again on Her Weekly Bible Work
Here’s Hayley’s report.
‘It is wonderful to see how God works in the little things and is always with us when we ask him to lead and protect us.
Three weeks ago, just after we had set up our table in front of the State Library in Melbourne, I had a young man and woman come to our table and ask about the books I was giving away. When I told the woman that they were Christian books she started to pick up the books. This is normally great, and most people are respectful and only take one or ask to see if they can have more, but she kept on going and I asked her what she was doing and what she was going to do with the books. She said she was going to give them out as people needed these books.
Everything was happening so fast, and I had to say no more books, but she did not seem to listen or care. The women had grabbed an arm load of books and then saw the Blue Bibles we had on the table, and she would not leave until she received the Bible.
The woman and her friend both left and moved away. When she was probably about 20 metres away she started to drop the books as she proceeded to try and put them in her bag.
As soon as they had gone away, I decided to have another prayer. When I prayed, I asked God for His hand to be over the books that were taken, and that wherever they ended up, He would use them to reach the people that needed them, and they would come to know Him. I also asked God if there were any books that would not be used, that some way they would find their way back to us. I thanked God for being with us and for His protection and finished my prayer. A few minutes went by, and the woman came and gave back five books.
God is so amazing how He answered our prayer. He showed us by some books coming back to us that He is always in control even if we don't understand what is happening around us. No matter what happens around and to us, despite our sometimes lack of effort, God can still use us.
Two weeks ago, when I was in the city in front of the State Library it was a very busy day. There were school groups from all over Victoria walking past. I had at least 100 youth and about 10 teachers congregate beside me at first and then all around me. This made it a bit difficult to talk to people but also to be seen by passers-by. After a while they eventually dispersed and went on their way, and I was able to continue without too many disturbances. About an hour went by and they all came back. Again, I was surrounded.
A couple of girls next to the table were saying ‘yuck’ when they realized the books where Christian books. A few comments were made, and I started to feel a bit uneasy so was sending up some prayers while I was standing there. The time they were around the table seemed to take forever and the teachers did not seem to care and did not even try and correct the situation. This went on for about half an hour and then it only took one young man from the group to ask about the books which changed the tenor of the student’s comments. He took a Great Controversy, and then other students started asking what the books were about. I was happy to tell them! Many of the books went out and the Bibles as well. This was a reminder to me that no matter what the situation is, or how uncomfortable or discourage we are while going forward trying to reach someone for God, He is always by our side working things out so hearts will be reached.
Last week, because it was Victorian school holidays and the sun was shining, it made it easier to be able to go and approach people while they were sitting on the lawn in front of the Library.
Most people were very polite and friendly whether they are interested in taking a book or not. Most people are shocked to hear that someone is willing to give them a free book and they will enquire what the book is about, which is wonderful, as I at get a chance to plant a seed in their mind, even if they don't take a book. One thing is for sure, and that is that the world events happening at present, are making people ask questions - events like tariffs on the different countries being imposed by the USA, results in questions in people’s minds, opening doors for us to provide Bible and Ellen G. White based answers for.
There was a mother and adult daughter who I approached who were thrilled to receive the Great Controversy. While I was talking to them, I was telling them about some of the other books that we give out and as soon as I mentioned the Ministry of Healing their eyes lit up, commenting that the Ministry of Healing sounds amazing. I had the pleasure of being able to give it to them.
I am finding how wonderful our God is and how he has set up the health message to open the doors to the hearts out there. Ministry of Healing is such a wonderful book, and I am seeing more and more of them be taken from my table. Accompanying Ministry of Healing we share another health book called A Simple Diet. A Spectacular Plan, made up of selected Ellen White quotations and compiled by Glenn D. Toppenberg. MD. These two books are a good combination to share, as most people are interested in their health, diet and healing.
The verse I keep thinking of whilst doing the book work is Proverbs 3:5-6 ‘Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths’.
Please continue to keep our bible work and book ministry in your prayers, asking that God will continue to bless.
God bless,
Hayley Phillips’.
